The first Pleasure Project exhibition was a celebration of queer intimacies, identities, sex and pleasure.

The exhibition brought together works by local and international LGBTIQA+ artists to explore the diverse sexual experiences of and between queer women, gender diverse people and those that love them. The sex lives of queer women and gender diverse people have been widely misunderstood and misrepresented in the mainstream, often portrayed in a manner that prioritises the pleasure of cisgender men. This has resulted in depictions of queer women and gender diverse people that are insincere and not reflective of lived experience.

Our exhibition conversely explored the theme of women loving women through a queer lens. The artists revealed the nuances of pleasure experienced by queer women and gender diverse people, providing honest, raw and varied depictions of intimacy. These included explorations of sensual experiences, fantasy and self-pleasure, anticipation and arousal, physical touch and orgasm, kink and erotic play, and group sex.

In reclaiming the sexual and intimate experiences of women loving women, the artists honoured all body types, all genders, all expressions, and all experiences - reminding us that pleasure is for everyone.
